I saw this on the shelf when I was buying some new bags for my big old foodsaver vacuum system. I thought this was a great idea. And at $20, what a deal! I did scoff a bit at the price of the special ziploc bags you had to buy, but I still thought it was worth a try.

If I only ever used this for lunchmeat and cheese, I would still be SO happy with this investment. These are two items that always go bad before we use it all, and that I am never going to pull out my big old foodsaver vacuum and bags every time I open them up.

I transferred my [...] bag of salami and bag of sliced cheese into the special fresh saver ziplocs and it has just been awesome. It only takes a couple of extra seconds to grab the freshsaver and seal those bags up tight each time you get into them. My meat and cheese looks like the package has never been opened several weeks later. I couldn't be happier.

I know I will end up using this for a lot more down the road...but I couldn't let this great product continue to sit up here with no reviews. It is just excellent. It is great for items that you access a lot that are a hassle to deal with the traditional food saver system on. Or if you can't afford to invest in the bigger system. I highly recommend it. The only downside is the bags are pricey, but again, these bags get opened an resealed a lot, they last a long time...and you could probably wash and reuse them a few times if you were so inclined.

UPDATE 1/14/10: I will add that I have seen some comments about the seals failing and not working. The only time I have had this problem is if I have sealed and resealed the same bag more than say 15 times or so. Also, you can have failure of the seal if the product inside is very greasy or moist, to the extent that grease or liquid gets sucked up through the seal when sealing...than can compromise it. If not those cases, I have never had a bag fail on me. I still highly recommend this product. And I saw your latest commercial Food Saver people. How about sending me some love?
Great product!

I use this all the time. Keep it handy and charged. I replaced another brand with this food saver and it definately out-performs the battery operated model. I found that you need a solid surface to get a good seal to extract the air. So if your bag is bulky, use a small item that is flat and about a half inch to an inch high and slide it under the corner of the bag where the air extraction seal is located. I use a small wooden cutting board. Works great.
A very smart idea at last!

I first saw this in an ad on TV I have my regular food saver and love it. How ever when I first saw this I thought it was to good to be true. Well for the money it was worth the price to try it out. I have to say I love this product very much. In Cheese and lunch meat alone I have saved way more in a month then I spent for it. I can also say you don't need a stand for it. I just get the bags and use it that way. I keep it handy so who ever uses the stuff for lunch can seal them right back up. You can also wash them to use again. That is great.

I have to say that it is very important to keep the zipper clear and clean and that you don't have food right under the green circle.

I also think that when you can seal things up like a cut onion and have it as fresh after a week as it was first cut is a bonus. I am going to remember this as a great gift to everyone of my friends. I know they will be very happy with me for saving their cheese and lunch meats both.

I have been using my FreshSaver for over 3 months now and I use it everyday to seal my cold cuts (breakfast and evening snack). Everything from ham and salami, to cheese and then even cookies. I never realized how such a product could help save me frustration and, well, money! No more dried out deli meats or cheeses. Everything is always as fresh as the day I purchased. Foods also last much longer, since I have eaten fruit and deli meats a week after they were purchased and they seem day one fresh. You do have to get used to the vacuum unit and hold it at the correct angle over the zipper bag valve. Works every time and I have dishwashed (without the drying cycle and on the top shelf) some of my bags and they work fine. DEFINITELY worth the investment. At the time I purchased mine they were not available at Amazon.com which, of course, has the best price (taking into account free shipping). Do not forget extra bags...you will need them! Also, these are meant for the refrigerator NOT the freezer!!!
Works dandy and the price is right!

I've had no problems with this marvelous vacuum sealer so far. It comes with an adapter for the oval container seals. The FoodSaver FSFRBZ0326 1-Gallon Zipper Food-Storage Bags, 22 Count should hold most things. We also got the small bags FoodSaver FSFRBZ0026 1-Quart Zipper Food-Storage Bags, 34 Count which are handy, and two kinds of containers: FoodSaver T020-00024 24-Ounce Lunch-and-Leftover Containers, Set of 3 and FoodSaver FSFRAN0224 Deli Containers, 2-Pack of which one comes with the vacuum unit. The latter are a bit shallow but OK. I think I paid $75 for all the stuff, but food saving cost is very significant, and this is convenient and saves a lot of money over the large counter-top units. Other Foodsaver canisters have dubious reviews because of reported cracking. You can do it all with the bags, really. Example use: peeled organic Fuji apple in a small bag will not brown at all overnight in fridge.
